An Analysis of Nonfiction
Literature is defined as nonfiction when the story is based on factual information. Although the gather of writings is true to the author, there are many literary concepts that are used to paint a clear and compendious picture for the commentator. The author as well as the referee must use their imagination to rise the most unwrap of the literature that they read.
In Salvation by Langston Hughes and Who Will ignitor Incense When Mothers Gone by Andrew Lam, irony, and imaging are used vividly to express their thoughts and relay a message to the reader about what has happened to them in their childhood. Both of these pieces of literature speak to the essence of growing up and not sagacity the thought patterns of adults.
In Salvation the use of irony is common throughout the piece of literature. Hughes begins the story by telling the reader that he was salvage as a young boy, plainly he is not really saved; I was saved from sin when I was going on thirteen. But not really saved (Hughes, 2011, p. 351). With further reading, Hughes tells the reader why he is not really saved.
When Hughes went to church that evening he was delay for saviour to come to him; My aunt told me that when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to you inside! And Jesus came into your life!...I believed her (Hughes, 2011, p. 351). It is ironic that the exact turnabout of what Hughes went to church for happened to him. Instead of imbibeing the light that everyone professed to see, Hughes didnt see anything which caused his unbelief; รข¦I had deceived everybody in the church, and I hadnt seen Jesus, and that promptly I didnt believe there was a Jesus any more, since he didnt come to help me (Hughes, 2011, p. 352).
To service in making the story as vivid as possible, Hughes incorporated the use of imagery as well as irony. When reading the story it seems that everything and everyone inside the church is dark....If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Orderessay
