Results

A study examining the presence of gender or old age differences in childrens play states was conducted, and the data was subsequently recorded. A correlation among the variables was found, and so an age x gender MANOVA was run, with follow-up univariates to research if any significant multivariate effects were present.

Correlations among study variables are displayed in Table 1. When age is compared to the states of play, the unoccupied, solitary, and onlooker states are all negatively correlated with age.

Next, a bipartite (Age x Gender) MANOVA was conducted on the six play states, revealing a significant multivariate effect only for age [F(12, 254) = 4.86, p < .001].



Follow-up univariate ANOVAs indicated significant main effects for age roughly significantly in the associative type of play.

As seen in Table 2, the only main effect for gender nor an age x gender fundamental interaction that was found was for associative and somewhat for unoccupied play. This indicates that for all ternary ages, boys and girls do not differ in the intensity or extensity of their play, for the most part.
